Every September, the Philosophicum Lech marks the end of a series of events during the Lech Summer of Art and Culture. Under the academic direction of Konrad Paul Liessmann, a current topic is explored each year in lectures and discussions. For four days, the Neue Kirche Lech is dedicated to intellectual exchange. After the lectures, the topics can be discussed in depth in an intimate atmosphere at the bar or fireside lounge in the Romantik Hotel Krone.
The first Philosophicum Lech took place in September 1997 in the round hall of the Romantik Hotel "Die Krone von Lech". Since then, the Philosophicum Lech has enriched the summer scene in Lech and has developed into one of the best-known philosophical and cultural symposia in the German-speaking world. It was initiated by author Michael Köhlmeier and the mayor of Lech at the time, Ludwig Muxel. The idea of using the breathtaking mountain scenery and the inspiring atmosphere of the private retreat of Lech am Arlberg as a refuge for philosophical exchange was a complete success: the annual Philosophicum, which retains its unique family character despite its size, attracts more than 600 participants.
At Philosophicum Lech, you can expect a stimulating program of exciting lectures by philosophers and scientists and subsequent discussions, but that's not all: the symposium will also include the awarding of the "Tractatus - Essay Prize of Philosophicum Lech", endowed with €25,000. Thanks to its interdisciplinary orientation, the Philosophicum Lech opens up different and exciting perspectives on the annually changing theme and offers a forum for the burning questions of our time. The 28th Philosophicum Lech will take place from September 23 to 28, 2025 and is dedicated to the topic "Adventure - In Praise of Unavailability".
