Philosophical conference on the Arlberg
Every September Philosophicum Lech is the finale of an event-packed art and culture-oriented summer in Lech. With scholarly guidance from Konrad Paul Liessmann, every year a current topic is sought, with presentations and discussions held. For four days New Church Lech will be the focus of this intellectual exchange. After the lectures you can get into further discussion in-depth about the topics raised in an informal setting in the bar and in the lounge in the Romantic Hotel Krone, with its open fire.
A unique philosophical conference in the famous Arlberg region
The first Philosophicum Lech took place in September 1997 in the 'Runde Saal' in the Romantic Hotel "Die Krone von Lech". Since that time Philosophicum Lech has added to the summer scene in Lech and has become one of the best known philosophical-cultural, science-based symposium in the German-speaking realm. It was set up by author Michael Köhlmeier and by the former mayor of Lech, Ludwig Muxel. The idea of using the breath-taking mountains and inspiring atmosphere of the private retreat town of Lech am Arlberg as a base for philosophical exchange, has yielded a great deal of success. More than 600 participants come to the annually occurring Philosophicum, which retains its unique intimate character, even with these numbers. The rush to get these sought-after tickets is huge.
Space for reflection and discussion
At Philosophicum Lech a stimulating programme of events awaits, comprising exciting discussions with philosophers and scientists, followed by discussion. And if that weren't enough, as part of the symposium, the €25,000 prize money for the "Tractatus – Essay prize at Philosophicum Lech" is also awarded. After the event in Lech Church, the bar at the Romantic Hotel Krone, just a short walk away, is the meeting point for further exchanges between the contributors and other participants.
Themes & Contributors
Thanks to its interdisciplinary set-up, Philosophicum Lech opens up varied and exciting views about the topic, which changes each year, and provides a forum for the burning questions of our times.
The 25th Philosophicum Lech will take place between 20 and 25 September 2022 and is dedicated to the topic, "Der Hass. Anatomie eines elementaren Gefühls". Further information about registration and about the programme of events and the speakers can be found at www.philosophicum.com
