Art project - 'Doors'. Naturally artistic spaces.
Hiking through art in Lech am Arlberg
Nine doors on the mountain, each one in its own place, have been catching the eyes of hikers in Lech am Arlberg since July 2017. The art project 'Doors' is an outdoor exhibition; nine artists from five different nations have each created a door. These art objects have been positioned on the Green Ring Hiking route. Hike and come across each door which, thanks to their considered positioning in the natural Alpine surroundings, provide new insights and views. Open a door and get a new view of the landscape in Lech.
Variety-packed cultural life in the Arlberg
Innovative and creative ideas meet fruitful territory in Lech am Arlberg. The unique mountain landscape in the west of Austria provides a creative source of inspiration and artistic creations are therefore inevitable. This is impressively in evidence with the new Sky Space, designed by American artist James Turrell, and by the art project 'Doors' that has enhanced the Green Ring in Lech am Arlberg since summer 2017.
Art on the Green Ring
The concept of having artwork in nature stemmed from Daniel Nikolaus Kocher, Artistic Director of the Green Ring since 2009. In 2014 he positioned the first doors there. These were the entrance portal for the Green Puzzle Ring for children. This door, set in a new context, inspired him so much that it gave rise to the concept of an art installation. In July 2017, as part of a vernissage, nine doors were creatively positioned in the Arlberg.
The Hotel Krone as sponsor
The Romantic Hotel Krone sponsored one of the doors in this exceptional art project. It was designed by Liechtenstein artist Patrick Kaufmann, who now lives in Switzerland, and spent the winter in the shelter of the hotel. In July it took its place on the mountain again, inviting hikers to stop, look and be amazed.
